Apart from Afilias (.info) and VeriSign (.com/.net), many different registries throughout the world are working on the adoption of Internationalized Domain Names. Within Europe, there are several registries interested in expanding the character set that can be used for domain names, primarily to provide country- and language-spezific characters.

The following table lists all the registries that have published a time schedule for the expansion of their character set, and all those that do already accept registrations of Internationalized Domain Names.

Not listed are top level domains that cannot be registered at Knipp, e.g. Korea or Thailand.

For the character sets mentioned here, only those characters can be used that belong to the group of letters (i.e. alphabetic characters). Special characters like £ (pound, currency sign) in the Latin-1 Supplement or the € (euro symbol) are not supported.
