Mailbox packages

If you require mailboxes with storage space for your e-mails in addition to the included e-mail forwarding, you can add mailbox packages to your domain (for an extra charge).
To do so when creating or modifying a domain, select the option „Expert mode“ and therein „Using Knipp's name servers“. Then activate the option „Mailboxes“ and select the mailbox package you need. Below that, you can set the user name (login), the first/last name and the access password for each mailbox.
The mailboxes each offer 1 GB of Storage („Fair Use“ Policy) in our ISO 27001 certified data center within Germany, which is operated independently by us with 100% green electricity and in accordance with the EU GDPR.

Usage in your e-mail application

Please follow these instructions for setting up your mailbox in e-mail applications (Thunderbird, Outlook, etc.). The technical data of the respective mailboxes for sending (SMTP) or reading emails (IMAP) are identical for all users (except for the user names and passwords).
If your e-mail application does not automatically detect the correct mail server, you can use the following settings manually to set up the mailbox:

Settings for receiving e-mails

  • IMAP server: post.knipp.de
  • Port: 993 (TCP)
  • Transport: SSL/TLS
  • User name: corresponds to the e-mail address (with domain, e.g. benutzer@example.net)
  • Password: corresponds to the password set in the DRS

Settings for sending e-mails

  • SMTP server: post.knipp.de
  • Port: 465 (TCP)
  • Transport: STARTTLS
  • User name: corresponds to the e-mail address (with domain, e.g. benutzer@example.net)
  • Password: corresponds to the password set in the DRS
If TCP port 465 is not accessible due to firewalls on the client side, TCP port 587 can be used (also with STARTTLS) as an alternative for SMTP.
If Outlook is used as a client, SPA (Secure Password Authentication) must not be activated.

Usage in a web browser

If you'd like to read and send your emails in a web browser, please use our web mailer at https://post.knipp.de. Please use the full e-mail address (with domain, e.g. user@example.net) as the user name and your mailbox password to log in.
