This page presents some frequently asked questions and answers
concerning .de domains.
Besides the information offered here, we have a list
of general questions
and answers about the domain system, which is worth reading
and well-suited to impart a solid basic understanding for this topic.
Since December 3, 2013, DENIC puts its domains in a
»Redemption Grace Period« for 30 days after deleting them.
During this time, the domain name cannot be registered by others;
it can only be reactivated by the previous holder.
In order to reactivate a domain that has been deleted, use the
document generator
of Knipp. Simply enter the domain name and select »Domain restore« as
the type of document.
You can use our award-winning
Domain Registration System
to easily make changes online. You'll need a user account and password
to login, of
course. If you do not have an account by now, you
can create one in
only a few steps.
Yes, since there will be a function check.
The domain registration will be executed even if the name servers
should not satisfy the technical requirements.
But the registration will be canceled if no successful function check of
the name servers is accomplished within 4 weeks.
The costs for the registration will not be refunded in this case.
When a
registrar change
(or »Konnektivitäts-Koordination« as it is called for .de domains)
is being performed on a domain, the losing registrar has to give his
approval for the transaction. This acknowledgement (»ACK«) has to be
given within 5 days.
A refusal is possible as well, of course.
After a rejection within the settled period (»negative acknowledge«, or »NACK«)
the request for the change of the registrar can be started again, for example
because there are legal documents available which have been missing before.
In order to reduce the costs for this procedure, the »LATEACK«-mechanism was introduced.
It is a possibility to retroactively acknowledge a previously rejected transaction.
If you want to transfer a domain to Knipp and the current registrar
sends a rejection, then you can simply restart the change of the registrar.
No extra costs arise for you as a customer of Knipp.
Another possibility is that the current registrar sends a LATEACK instead.
If you want to transfer a domain from Knipp to another registrar,
the LATEACK mechanism is currently not being supported.
The gaining registrar has to restart the transfer.
The contract between Knipp and you as the customer.
The contract between
DENIC
and the
holder
of the domain.
Normally, the customer and the holder of a domain are the same person.
If you act as a reseller, however, this may be different.
In addition to that, there can be further legal relations,
e.g. for operating a web server. This has to be kept separated from the
domain registration, although these services are often closely linked
to each other.
For generic top level domains, i.e. .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz,
and .name domains, there is the so-called »Whois Data Reminder Policy«
which shall ensure the actuality of the Whois data.
The registrants have to be called upon to check the momentarily recorded
data and update it, if necessary. For .de domains or other country code TLDs
a procedure like this is not officially required.
The informations about the contacts should always be kept up-to-date.
You can comfortably manage this with our
Domain Registration System.
Wrong specifications can, in the worst case, lead to the loss of the domain.
