concerning the unified domain for Europe.
Domain names of this new TLD always end with the String ».eu«.
Besides the information offered here, we have a list

and answers about the domain system, which is worth reading
and well-suited to impart a solid basic understanding for this topic.
Since December 10th, 2009, it is be possible to register
Umlauts and many other special characters in addition to those that
have been allowed ever since, namely
the letters »a« to »z«, the digits »0« to »9«, and the hyphen.

In principle, everybody is allowed to register:
companies, public bodies, associations, and individuals.
The precondition, however, is to have a permanent
residence in one of the member states of the European Union.
In order to register a .eu domain, natural persons must have a domicile
within the European Community, while legal persons are required to have
a registered office, a central administration or a principal place of
business within the European Community. The third group allowed to register
domains under the .eu TLD are organizations established within the European
Community without prejudice to the application of national law.

Basically, the two-letter country codes (defined in the industry standard
ISO-3166) cannot be registered.
For example, the registration of the domains de.eu (Germany),
fr.eu (France), and nl.eu (Netherlands) is blocked.
Moreover, each member state was authorized to hand in a list of terms used
for geographical or geopolitical concerns.
In the following, you find the resulting lists.
List of names which are reserved for registration only by the European
Commission or
the government of a Member State.
In addition, the following names are reserved for the use of the .eu registry:
eurid.eu, registry.eu, nic.eu, dns.eu, internic.eu, whois.eu, das.eu, coc.eu, eurethix.eu, eurethics.eu, euthics.eu.
EURid puts its domains in quarantine for 40 days after deleting them.
(This is also called »Redemption Period« for other registries.)
During this time, the domain name cannot be registered by others
but it can only be reactivated by the previous holder.
In order to reactivate a domain that has been deleted, use the
document generator of
Knipp. Simply enter the domain name and select »Domain restore« as the
type of document.
After a domain name has been deleted, is spends 40 days in quarantine.
During this time, the domain is not yet available for registration to the
general public, but it is also no longer in the possession of its former owner.
It can, however, be reactivated by the former owner during the quarantine
(see above).
After the 40 day quarantine period has passed the name is made available
for registration to the public.
You can initiate transfers either via the web interface of the DRS or via
e-mail templates.
Since 21 November 2012, there is no distinction any more between a trade, a
transfer and a combined trade and transfer.
In order to take over the data of the current holder of the domain without
any modifications, simply leave all fields of the Registrant section of
the transfer form
empty. The correct data will then automatically be copied from the registry.
On the other hand, if you wish to specify a new owner for the domain in the
course of transferring the domain, simply enter the new data in the
Registrant section. The DRS will make sure that the data of the new owner
will be stored at the registry.
Until 21 November 2012, owner changes were handled by EURid in a special way.
And you had to pay for them. This no longer so. Registrant contacts of .eu
domains can be modified for free as in the case of other domains.
