This page presents some frequently asked questions and answers
about new generic top level domains.
Besides the information offered here, we have a list
of general questions
and answers about the domain system, which is worth reading
and well-suited to impart a solid basic understanding for this topic.
Some registry operators compile lists of selected domain names which are
highly requested or which they consider especially valuable for some
reason or the other. These so called »premium domains« are offered at
prices that range above that of regular registrations.
The regulations concerning the pricing of premium domains are as diverse
as the domain endings themselves. For some of them there is only
a single list of premium names which are all offered for the very same
premium price. For others, there are multiple lists of premium domains
which can be registered for different prices.
Also, with some registries the premium price is a one-off fee that is
paid with the domain registration while others also request higher
prices for the renewal of a premium domain registration.
You do not have to worry about a rude awakening after an accidental
registration of a premium domain, by the way.
If a registration order concerns one of these names, you will be asked
for a separate confirmation denoting the actual price for the
premium name.
Real-time registrations for such domains will fail with an error message
(e.g. »a price limit must be specified to agree to the charged price«);
in this case, please contact our sales team (phone: +49 231 9703-233,
e-mail: sales@knipp.de to have the domain
registered after agreeing to the price.
For some of the top level domains that have been applied for since the
opening of the TLD name space in 2012, the introductory phase has not
been fully completed yet.
It is not before the operator of a new TLD has passed the entire
application procedure and signed the Registry Agreement with the
organization in charge, »ICANN«, that registrations become possible.
When exact that is depends on the individual case.
