Everything you need to know about .asia -at a glance

Registrations

You can order .asia domains easily with the help of our e-mail template. We have prepared a page with explanations which will help you to complete the form.
Registrations via the Webinterface will also become possible within the next few days.

Naming conventions

The basic principles of the naming conventions for .asia domains do not differ from the rules as they are commonly used for other top level domains. We have listed them for you below.
  • Domain names may only consist of the Latin letters “a” to “z”, the digits “0” to “9”, and the hyphen. German umlaut characters like “ä”, “ö” and “ü”, as well as the ligature “ß” are not permitted for the time being.
  • Domain names must consist of at least three characters. The maximum length is 63 characters.
  • Domain names may not start with a hyphen and may not end with a hyphen.
  • The third and fourth character may not contain a hyphen.
  • The domain names may not exclusively consist of one of the alpha-2 country codes (e.g. “DE” for Germany).
  • Besides that there is a list of “Reserved Names” with names from the fields Internet administration (ICANN, IANA), Registry Operations, and geographic and geopolitical names that may not be registered.

Price and performance

At Knipp you don't have to pay through your nose for the popular Asia-domains. You get .asia domains for similar favorable conditions as we also offer them for .eu domains, for example. Please refer to our price list for the details.
As a special offer for Knipp customers we have a Trustee service that makes it possible to register arbitrary .asia domains according to the given regulations. For more information, please see below.
Moreover, we also provide a large bundle of additional services. For our customers, these services are available without any additional costs.

Rules of allocation

The .asia top level domain is dedicated to the Asian region in the first place. However, the region for .asia as specified by ICANN is rather big. Australia, New Zealand, and even Antarctica also belong to it. You can find an exact list of the countries of the “Asia Pacific Region” in the appendix to the “Charter Eligibility Requirement Policy”.
In order to register a .asia domain it is sufficient if one of the associated contacts for the applied domain is a legal entity in Asia (i.e. within the localities described by the ICANN Asia Pacific Region). A legal entity may be a natural person or a juristic entity (such as a corporation).
That contact must be marked as the “Charter Eligibility Declaration” Contact for the domain. The CED Contact bay be the registrant, administrative, technical or billing contact.
In any case, the Registrant (Registrant Contact) will remain the “operating contact” for a domain, including for domain transfers and the reappointment of a CED Contact for a domain.
Additional information must also be provided for the CED Contact. These include:
  • Locality of the claimed Legal Entity status
  • Type of Legal Entity (Natural Person, Company, etc.)
  • Form of Identification (Passport-Number, Business Registration Number, etc.)
  • Identification Number / Code of Reference

Trustee service by Knipp

As a special service for Knipp customers, we offer to specify a suitable Trustee Contact as the CED Contact for the registration of .asia domains. The costs for this service is also listed in the above mentioned price list.
